The Chinese use two brush strokes to write the word ‘crisis.’ One brush stroke stands for danger; the other for opportunity. In a crisis, be aware of the danger–but recognize the opportunity.”
― John F. Kennedy

The Chinese word for “crisis” (simplified Chinese: 危机; traditional Chinese: 危機; pinyin: wēijī) is frequently invoked in Western motivational speaking as being composed of two Chinese characters respectively signifying “danger” and “opportunity”. Some linguists have criticized this interpretation as a kind of etymological fallacy because the primary meaning of the character pronounced jī (simplified Chinese: 机; traditional Chinese: 機) is not “opportunity”

I started my study of this full moon with the idea that we are at a point of crisis. As I referenced the quote made famous by JFK, I scared my dog with how loud I howled as I found out it was not based in complete truth. It turned out to be another glossy phrase by a politician, perhaps well meaning, that oversimplified an extremely complicated situation. The world at the time was in a strong transformational stage and he was trying to alleviate distress  and motivate the masses.

The general public gladly adopted this idea because it brought comfort. I found it interesting though, that the actual translation of the first character is more  congruent to the term “critical point”.   In science a Critical point is  the point on a phase diagram at which both the liquid and gas phases of a substance have the same density, hence indistinguishable.

Life is complicated right now because we are a phase where critical issues are at critical points. There is also danger. No transformation can take place without it.

Communications with each other is difficult as we may seem to speak the same language, but the nuances of the words can quickly dissolve into misunderstanding. We want to feel secure in being understood, yet many of us find articulating our feelings can be troublesome. This stage of evolution is akin to the critical point in the evolution of the butterfly. In the chrysalis, the physical form of the catarpillar is actually liquified by the physical pressure of change before turning into a butterfly. We may feel the same right now.

We have the sun (the father, awareness) in Cancer (the mother, home, family, emotion), and we have the moon (the mother, emotion) in Capricorn (the father, government, control. Hard work). Both of these signs represent security in different forms. Both are being aspected in challenging ways to help us discern what we really value. Both are also helping us get through this critical point in evolution to find some grounding.

Pluto is in Capricorn as well and is in the process of transforming our ideas of the powers that be. Pluto entered Capricorn in the unsettling year of 2008 and will continue until 2023.

This full moons square to Uranus also ignites the Uranus/Pluto square that we have been dealing with for the past few years. The power of it has been waining as the two planets have moved out of the square, but on occasion a planet may reactive it. This aspect brings upheaval. While crisis does not mean opportunity the Universe is generous with themat the moment.

Mars in Scorpio thrives on challenging the status quo. Mars is direct now and picking up speed which energizes us. Scorpio feedback may be uncomfortable but it will be honest in its challenge.  You are who you are, but are  you who you think you are? Are you the person you want others to see? Will you stand in truth?

Saturn square to Neptune is still a focus. Revelations about the integrity of our leaders. Luckily its influence is prior to the us election.

Venus in Leo is playful, which is refreshing, yet can turn to escapism quickly. Let’s be honest though, who doesn’t need a little escapism about now.

Jupiter trine Pluto is beneficial. Increased personal growth on any level. Grand trine in water.Mars in Scorpio, sun in cancer, Neptune, Chiron  in Pisces. Deep emotional healing. It forms a kite with the moon in Capricorn.

All of this energy is changing us and therefore shifting our perceptions about reality. It’s helping us to sort through some of the drama. It’s also helping us see the hard work we need to do to get where we want to go. Perhaps wanting to stay inside our homes to “cocoon” for a while is all part of the transformation.

What are some of the cultural changes that have taken place in the last 5 years?

How have your beliefs changed in the last 5 years?

How has your life changed in the last 5 years?

What relationships have changed in the last 5 years?

How do you see yourself now compared to 5 years ago? Are you patient with yourself?

Are you compassionate to the fact that others have gone through similar changes in them selves and with the world around them  and may not feel comfortable with it?

Full moons are about releasing what no longer serves us. Meditate on what you are ready to release. Write it down and safely burn.
